The American Nightmare/ The Price of Dreaming

“It is the big deception that deluded humanity for many centuries , that made humanity turn the genocidal west into the unmatchable author and unquestionable origin of progress and development and the savior of man from the abysses of ignorance ; it seemed the whole world wanted to share the progress of the west and bought into it.

We forgave the west everything , because the west invented the car and discovered electricity and manufactured devices and machines that fascinated us .We saw the refrigerator, the vacuum cleaner , the TV , we were not aware of the fact that these discoveries and devices were made at a very high cost,

We forgave the west the merciless slaughter of 150 million indigenous people in the biggest genocide that humanity ever witnessed by way of biological war and famine and displacement and enslavement , we believed that the Natives of the new continent -the descendants of the Mayans among others- were savages that deserved to be treated as such for humanity to reach the golden age of freedom and scientific knowledge .

We are all partners in this genocide that wiped out whole nations from the face of the earth. We saw the cow boy killing the red Indian and we applauded the victory of civilization over savagery, many times we applauded , we did not know that we were the slaughtered Indian , and that our turn was next on the extensive list of the brutal official west.

We forgave the slave trade that killed more than 50 million Africans that were dumped in the ocean of darkness -during the crossing- to be eaten by sharks .

We forgave everything , there is a price for our ignorance , and we pay the price from our culture , our language , our religion , our faith , our heritage , our children , we paid and paid and kept on paying to become modern and civilized , we became poorer and bereft of everything , our land was taken, our country assaulted , our children killed , our rule usurped .

What are we running after ? isn’t it time to realize that we have been running after a mirage and that this whole trip was a set up whereby we lost what we had for a presentation created by the technology of a mad sick mind”

  1. A Dream shared with me by a 1948 Palestinian Muslim refugee who made his way to the USA and into a position in The Defense Industry during The Cold War with Top Secret Clearance, became my Dream too and led to my first book, “KEEP HOPE ALIVE”

After my first of 7 trips in 2005, to BOTH sides of The Wall in Israel Palestine I also began to DREAM of running for US HOUSE of Representatives-and I am pursuing BOTH DREAMS!

  2. you can dream what you like but there is no such place as “israel Palestine” , it is called occupied Palestine. the use of this dubious term is for the purpose of changing and doing away with the Palestinian identity.

  3. The American dream is a colonialist dream, and the white settler could not unite with the Native indigenous except after decimating him . When we speak of a common dream this means the existence of the colonialist and the absence of the other: the Palestinian. Despite this illusion of possible coexistence that some peace activists like to give and work for, the Palestinian dream is to have all Palestine back and not just a part of it and Israel is not to get any portion of Palestinian land because- as the president of Iran said in his last speech : Israel- which is of a predatory nature- is a cancer and nothing else and whatever part of the land it occupies, from this part, the disease will spread to other partsas well therefore there is no cure for this ailment but eradication .

  4. a video from a time when the BBC still broadcast the occasional feature of interest.

    The Elder Brothers Warning

this is still worth watching, and underlines Daniel’s point.

the present post is also a suitable occasion to recall Gandhi’s famous response:

REPORTER Mr. Gandhi, what is your view of Western civilization?

GANDHI I think it would be a very good idea!

  5. Thank you for both ideas , very interesting film , we know the human being had a better civilization , we certainly have this feeling that this civilization falls short of our expectations. The point is maybe we don’t have to go so far in time and place but we have to go deep enough right here where we are.
