Lottery cash funds Liberal study of gay Jews in Britain

Liberal Judaism has won a grant of nearly £60,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to record the history of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Jews in Britain since the Second World War.
It plans to create an archive of audio-visual interviews, a resource pack for schools and a touring exhibiton on the experiences of LGBT Jews.
“We were approached by some community activists who were worried about the history being lost because the generation from the 1950s is dying out,” explained Liberal Judaism operations director Shelley Shocolinsky-Dwyer.

shouldn’t there be a study of ginger jewish people, before the ones born in the 20th century die out?

What is the Heritage Lottery Fund? A Jewish fund made up of private contributions? Then they can (mis)spend it any way they wish.
In fact it would be nice if these generous private donations were the ONLY source of money going from the UK/US to Israel without, however being tax exempt.

No it is a British fund made of funds raised from the NATIONAL Lottery. Considering Jews are 0.3% of the British population, gay Jews must be what–0.00000003%? Talk about squandering public resources…

This is the most stupid & questionable use of Lottery money I have heard of in some time. The history of LGBT in Britain, just goes to show the power of the Pink Lobby. I would not be suprosed if our mate “Twice Blessed” Ben Cohen from Channel 4 is “behind” this grant application.

According to the BBC website the Lord Mayors office donated £100,000 to the Gay Pride parade this weekend. The Gay lobby is very influential.

Actually, i am very happy with this development… I really want to know what being a Jewish gay may entail. Do we deal once again with an exclusive community ? Is it a tribal identity? I learned a lot about Zionism reading Jewish gay theoreticians…they helped me to grasp the notion of marginal politics..

very good point, Gilad. the question of identity hardly occurs to sleepy members of any predominant group. and yet it is very crucial to the higher development of human personality.
of course there are cheerful minority groups. but for the deeper unfolding of the concept of identity we are mainly indebted to thinkers with a background amongst the marginalised and oppressed, or those who have become empathically involved with such communities.
the oppression of children is hardly recognised as yet, but i hope this group will be making its distinctive voice heard before too long.
children are unique amongst minorities in that on the one hand no-one remains a member forever, and on the other, everyonbe has been one.
whilst i feel it is philosophically questionable to make sexuality a major criterion for one’s identity, i salute gay people for their courage in challenging crude, and generally hypocritical, preconceptions about the role of the erotic in an examined human life.

Israelis use public funds in the countries they have colonized to give jobs to their people who are not fit for corporate, military, or colonial administration work.
This is just one example.

sixty grand!!!??? i spend more than that every saturday evening (true, i am blessed with a lot of very thirsty friends, a not insignificant proportion of whom also insist on weekly assailing the inner directors of their misery with pseudo-therapeutic cosmetic powders snuffed up the nose through cylindrically convoluted items of fiat currency)
can we keep a sense of proportion here?
