Khader Adnan – 61st Day on Hunger Strike

by Laura Stuart
Thursday, February 16th, 2012

Khader Adnan is starting his 61st day of hunger strike today in protest at his imprisonment under so called “administrative detention” in Israel. No charges have been made against Khader Adnan and despite his state of extreme weakness he is kept chained to his bed.

Adnan, whom Israel says is a member of Islamic Jihad, was given a four month “administrative detention” order by the Israeli military – meaning that he is held without being charged for any crime or trial, a practice continued by Israel that dates back to British colonial days.

More shame on we British as our colonialist past is responsible for so much misery in Palestine.

Khader Adnan has reached the very limit of what the body can take and most hunger strikers organs shut down and they die around the 59th day. We need to highlight this case and contact our M.P.s as a matter of great urgency.

There are over 300 other Palestinians in prison in Israel under “administrative detention” according to Amnesty International.

قُلْ هَلْ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَا إِلَّا إِحْدَى الْحُسْنَيَيْنِ ۖ وَنَحْنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمْ أَنْ يُصِيبَكُمُ اللَّهُ بِعَذَابٍ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ أَوْ بِأَيْدِينَا ۖ فَتَرَبَّصُوا إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ مُتَرَبِّصُونَ {52}

[Shakir 9:52] Say: Do you await for us but one of two most excellent things? And we await for you that Allah will afflict you with punishment from Himself or by our hands. So wait; we too will wait with you.
