‘Windmills of Your Mind’, the seminal hallucinogenic break-up ditty first known to English-speaking audiences as the signature sound track song to the Thomas Crown Affair, is itself a cover of a French song. Is that form for real or is Gilad pulling our legs?
What would we call a country that required visitors to state, “I undertake not to participate in pro-Jewish activity”?

Well, I think it’s a year too late to continue to call Israel the only democracy in the Middle East. I would like to know answers to the following however:
(1) Please provide a list of all countries in the world with Arabic-speaking populations of at least 20%.
(2) Now from the list in (1), provide those countries in which those Arabs can participate in elections and represent their country in their legislature, up to and including the office of prime minister.
(3) Is it or is it not true that the United States requires immigrants to declare that they are not and have not ever been members of the Communist Party?
(4) Is the U.S. a democracy?
Not defending the policy, just looking for factual accuracy and balance.

Sure Israel is a democracy but so was white South Africa.

April 18, 2012 at 5:44 pm
Paul, did blacks have the right to vote in Apartheid-era South Africa?
Indeed, this is precisely why the comparison to Apartheid is so inapt. If you want to make comparisons between S. Africa and the policies in the territories, that’s one thing. Israel’s policies toward its own minority citizens, however, is another.

A delightful example of your Talmudic tendencies – and the Telmudic tendencies of Israel itself.
It’s on much the same level as what I was told as a child – that “the Arabs” (that was what they were called in those days) were not allowed to serve in the Israeli army because we didn’t want to make them fire on their own people.

That’s a nice way of not answering the question.
You’re so friggin’ transparent, Paul. You’re like glass, but not as tough.

Druze Arabs and Beduin Arabs join the Army in great numbers. Israeli Arabs are not obliged to join the army but can volunteer if they want to.
It is indeed an unfair law that descriminate against Jews.
Arabs and Haredi Jews should either go to the army or do the same time doing community work, such as working in hospitals and so on.

“Is it or is it not true that the United States requires immigrants to declare that they are not and have not ever been members of the Communist Party?”
Dishonest comparison. Palestinians are not a political group any more than the Hispanics in the US, they are an ETHNIC group, a minority (now after successful ceaseless ethnic cleansing).
An accurate parallel would be to replace the word “pro-Palestinian” with “pro-Hispanic”in your question:
“Is it or is it not true that the United States requires immigrants to declare that they are not members of any pro-Hispanic organization and undertake not to be in contact with any such members.”
The answer is NO, not true.

ariadna
April 18, 2012 at 7:17 pm
A subversive Israeli at a “particular” center did this “ad hoc”?!?
Is there any limit to the contortions to which you would subject yourself to defend that rancid state and to the absurd inanities you invent as excuses?
Israel does something that elicits oprobium (like putting numbers on the arms of the Palestinian inmates, nazi camp-fashion) and when exposed it is always an individual initiative, not official policy…
Do you ever have any dysphagia when swallowing these large pieces of hasbara or has your ingesting capacity been enlarged over the years?
aemathisphd
April 18, 2012 at 9:44 pm
I didn’t make up that it took place in a single place.
Look, I’m sorry if the truth bothers your Nazi sensibilities.
ariadna
April 18, 2012 at 10:41 pm
Use the “Nazi!” screech more sparingly, even when it is your last resort. Its overuse in hasbara has rendered it threadbare. Don’t you have access to a thesaurus?
It is disappointing to see someone who is eager to let us know how highly educated he is (“Are you aware I have a PhD in English literature?”… priceless and almost touching) having such a pitifully small vocabulary (‘asshole,’ ‘nazi,’ ‘pig’) and supporting his statements with quotes from wikipedia.
Apply yourself a bit to improving your ability to express yourself.
So… it happened only in one place. Was it a test, do you think?
Like the numbers on the arms of the Palestinians kidnapped and imprisoned? If there had been no outrage do you supposed it would have continued?
Would you say that on the whole Israel needs to be watched so that everything that happens in “just one place” is exposed?

It is interesting that Jewish people want to keep all the rights and privileges of minorities in other countries ,while in the Almighty state of Israel ,they do and support quite the opposite.
No wonder that Jesus had the harshest words against Pharisees/hypocrites.
“You are like snakes! You are like a collection of dangerous snakes! You will not escape God’s punishment in *hell.”
I am not surprised that Jesus is not likable by some venomous rabbis.

US immigration ceased asking if you were ever a member of the Communist Party about ten years ago. It still asks if you took part in the holocaust! Israel, having expelled most of its non-Jewish population, allows the remaining minority to vote. By excluding most of the legitimate inhabitants of Palestine, it looks like a democracy, comparing it with Arab non-democracies. But Israel is supported, very expensively, by the Western countries. It is uniquely exempted from Western standards of racial equality.

The phrase “Jewish Democracy” is an oxymoron. If you are going to use the word Jewish in the signifying phrase, then it must properly be considered a “Jewish Ethnocracy” to be valid as a signifier. A government body controlled by one ethnicity, or named for one ethnicity within the population being governed, cannot be considered a Democracy: not if there is a disparity in the population in question.

Talking about a person’s mother in a forum like this beyond the pale. If you have an issue with his mother, then take it up with her in an appropriate manner. But please, show some common decency.

I don’t have an Issue with his mother, I guess you have an issue,as I gave it as a straight example and as a question, as Atzmon raises his standart Ambivalence regarding Israel Democracy and while his mother lives in Israel, known to be a Jew Hater and been employed by the Israeli government and her books are are published by the Israeli government, in your country, would she get a job in the government.
You claim that “The phrase “Jewish Democracy” is an oxymoron”, so this is the example especialy for you.
common decency, is also not to spew into the well you got bread to eat, as his mother payment, that bought his food, came from the Israeli government.
Loren Franklin
April 21, 2012 at 6:00 pm
If you don’t have an issue with his mother, then why drag her into this discussion? She has a right to her opinion, no matter where she is employed. It is her duty as a citizen of that “so-called democracy” to question it. That’s what a democracy is. More power to her. If she has no right to her voice, then she lives in a totalitarian regime, not a democracy.
And in America she has a right to publish and sell any book she chooses. If Israel is a democracy as it claims, then she should be able to publish her views there as well, despite the howls of her detractors, or who employes her.
Show some decency, and leave his mother out of it.

I bring up his mother, to show him and YOU, what a democracy Israel is.
Despite the fact, that she is Know as a JEW HATER, she gets a job in the government.
Show me other democracy, were she would get a job in the government.
spare your dramatic empty words, she is a JEW HATER and still has a job in the Israeli goverment,as if she was a communist in the US, would she got a job in the government, give me a break.
Just shows you that Israel is a democracy and even if she hates jews, she is still in her job.
as I mentioned before, decency is when Atzmon would not spit on the democracy, that gave him food to eat and his mother to be employed by the government.

What Israel has could be called rather :
“the Tyranny of majority” a.k.a ochlocracy .
Lord Acton used this term, saying:
“The one pervading evil of democracy is the tyranny of the majority, or rather of that party, not always the majority, that succeeds, by force or fraud, in carrying elections.

cool…
Democracy seems over-rated to me anyway. The problem I think is with parliaments, Parliament can be lobbied and bought. If Democracy really was with the people rather than elected corrupt officials then maybe we would be better served.
searching
April 18, 2012 at 10:01 pm
Democracy was over-rated from the beginning. Socrates was democratically sentenced to death, the same with Jesus ( brainwashed public picked a murderer Barabas over Him). Hitler was also democratically chosen.
Stalin, before the election said: “There is no democracy like ours” ( of course giving a hint that those, who are not plannning to vote for him will taste the prisoner’s bread).
Of course he won 100% ,which meant the victory of Soviet’s Demon-cracy.
People/public, on the other hand, are also very easly to manipulate, deceive, scare etc.
What we observe right now in the world is democracy turning into a totalitarianism.
On a mass scale. Are we doomed?? Probably.
As a group/mass/demos/sheeple ,yes.
We can only save ourselves as individuals.

Mr. Atzmon juggling rhetoric is not just well known, but is pathetic, that’s why those who know his retoric games are already familiar, that he speaks and writes according to the audience…….
You will find all over his articles the following:
Atzmon quotes:
Israel is a democracy and that implies that Israeli citizens are complicit in Israeli atrocities………..
Because Israel is a democracy…….
Since Israel is a democracy…………
It is a fact that Israel is a ‘democracy’………
Israel is a democracy led by a centre-left national unity government…………”
Well suddenly now it is not.
Guess his memory is getting weak and he dosen’t remember the juggling routine, its the same, that sometimes he is an Ex-Jew while when its good for the cause, he is a part of the tribe, as its part of the rhetoric juggling.
