Hugo Chavez : Our Dear Friend

One of us is president Hugo Chavez . One of us Arabs, and one of us Lebanese, and one of us world citizens and freedom fighters . The president whose warmth and presence cannot be mistaken . Not only friend of the people, of his people, and friend to the oppressed everywhere, but friend of nature and of earth and of all forms of life . A beloved president that the world order could neither assimilate nor provoke nor oust , because president Chavez has taken refuge in the hearts of people , his people and other people as well , he is sheltered by his good intentions and his right resolves .
Whatever a righteous cause and wherever, it is sure to have its place reserved in the big heart of the caring president . Justice knows no boundaries or limits, like greed knows no limits or frontiers, and so much bloodshed could have been spared if the president’s advice had been taken into account or his services and intervention accepted. In Libya especially and in Syria also , many unhappy events could have been prevented if the president were allowed to intervene. As an authority, the president should have been listened to and summoned to act, but the world order is brutal and cruel and would not listen, blinded as it is- by its arrogance and greed, and where does the world order stand from Chavez’s sense of duty and compassion ?
For sure the world order and the USA had declared -long time ago -war on the president which is in fact a war declared on the people of Venezuela because the people of Venezuela are saying NO to the greedy insatiable imperialist monster that wants to devour everything . A NO to the monster means war in all its forms, whether in the media or in economy or in safety and security or in stability and unity , the enemy will attack on all these fronts if not simultaneously then alternately according to the dispositions and order of priorities . In Arab countries the enemy has created a series of Springs which great mischief and harm is not over yet in terms of instability, havoc and bloodshed . Every Arab country wished to have a president like Chavez to preserve its unity and protect its integrity and keep its resources . The scheme of the western monster is targeting the whole world and the Latin countries have had their bitter experience that is not over yet .
The ways of the enemies are cheat and deceit , their best scheme is to lure the people themselves and have them fall willingly in the trap set for them that will deliver them defenseless to their enemy . A country, any country seeking independence and autonomy has trodden the difficult path -no doubt -and chosen the difficult way , many challenges are awaiting the people who have taken such resolves , these difficulties are meant to strengthen the determined people and not to discourage them but to awaken in them their best dispositions and abilities , to bring up the best in them.. Never the enemy will give up its vicious plans of domination and subjugation, and the enemy will not come dressed as one but will come dressed as a friend with promises of reforms and changes and improvement to the point that one will fall for him mistaking him for a friend . The enemy might look and sound as a friend , he might even act like one in certain instances but he is ill intentioned and -at some point- this evil intention would have to surface and cause the intended damage . We wish for the Venezuelans to be spared such experience. Never trust a friend of Uncle Sam for Uncle Sam has no friends but has slaves and servants to carry on his will at the detriment of people while- for president Chavez – the people are dearest than his own eyes. We want our president back to lead and rule in the name of justice and righteousness.

On Sunday los Venezolanos will vote: Cavez or Capriles?
Unlike the US presidential race, this one poses no problem in telling the two candidates apart. Everyone knows who Chavez is, where he comes from and what (and for whom) he stands for. But what about Capriles?
You will not find out from the MSM that he owns several TV stations that blare anti-Chavez propaganda 24/7. It is not mentioned because it would come into conflict with the claim that Chaez is a “tyrant” that strangled “democracy” and stifles opposing voices. Nor are the TV stations his only assets; he is superrich member of the elite and (just like most of the Washington elite members) an attorney by training.. He is a young man that stands for the old and discredited:
– neoliberalism
– massive privatization
– cutting ‘entitlements’
–re-orienting Venezuela back into the fold of the Masters of the Universe: Usrael
But just like both American presidential candidates, what he says he is for primarily is… creating jobs.
A victory for Chavez will be a defeat or at the very least a setback and a delay for the US desire to not just grab Venezuela and its oil fields, but to deal a blow to the non-aligned movement and intimidate the rest of Latin America, several of whose countries have been inspired by Venezuela to break away. He has been a major irritant–for the leader of such a small country — with his open support and relationship building with USrael enemies, including Iran.

Viva Chavez! I think the leader of Venezuela has a much more difficult job than the American President. If I understand things in Venezuela correctly, there is a very big gap in earnings and wealth between the rich and the poor. I believe much of South America is like that and I believe it often runs along racial lines. Unfortunately, the USA’s economy is heading in that direction.

While growing up, I never understood my parents negative attitude towards communism. The subject rarely came up, but when it did it was clear they were both anti-communist. I just looked at communism as a different economic system and I thought, why should that be a problem if a country thinks it can solve its economic problems with communism. How naive and ignorant I was.
Venezuela is not trying to spread an economic system or revolution and chaos to other countries. China isn’t either; anymore anyway.
But while The New York Times was painting a rosy picture of the Soviet Union in the 1930′s (its chief correspondent said there were no atrocities taking place in the Soviet Union), Europeans knew better. They were getting reports back or had agents that saw the mass murder taking place. What is now called the Holodomor (the deliberate starvation of millions of Ukrainians) and other mass murders taking place were being reported back to Germany and other countries. In addition, Germany saw the chaos communists brought to Germany, Hungary and other countries when they installed governments after WW I and these communists were the same people that brought protests and chaos to Germany during WW I, hampering its war effort.
In the USA I would guess most people have heard the suggestion that Jews played an important role in communism, but if someone actually comes out and says that he’s immediately called an anti-semite. And then some people might bring up that the NAZIS said the Jews were communists but people here are told that is just a lie. And then your left with the accused anti-semite being tied to the “evil” NAZIS.
So much has been covered up its absolutely unbelievable. But what is coming out now is unbelievable too. Its all due to the internet.
This is an article written by the historian Mark Weber that Paul Eisen posted on his website. Its title is “The Jewish Role in the Bolshevik Revolution and Russia’s Early Soviet Regime.” Its a fascinating article and if you go to the bottom of the article, Weber posts the names of the top leaders of the new Soviet regime and their ethnic backgrounds are identified. Almost every leader was Jewish.
Jews were tied to communism in Europe by NAZIS and others (Churchill wrote an article about it too) because it was a fact. And they were the leaders, including of the secret police that did much of the killing. The Nobel Prize winner Alexander Solzenitsyn wrote a book called “Two Hundred Years Together” that discusses the brutality of the Jewish communists. That book has been censored in the USA. No publisher has shown any interest in having it translated and its clear where the pressure concerning that comes from. Some Jews suggested Solzenitsyn was an anti-semite for writing the book, even though his wife was Jewish.
To sum things up, Europeans knew who the leaders of communism were and who the system was for – who it empowered.

not many know this, but karl marx was secretly in the employ of the rothschilds. in fact, communism was a rothschild idea and they used marx as their front man for it. they invented communism as a long term strategy to gain world power. they educated marx and others in commie ideals and tactics and set them upon an innocent christian capitalist world. but by 1900, it became clear it would be too difficult to take over europe and america by themselves. so they decided to take over the ignorant and backward east, who were less strong willed than westerners and had questionable moral fibre. they planned to build these regions up into military powerhouses and unleash their red hoards on the west.
with their fomenting of the russian revolution, the plan was set into motion. hey installed a government of puppets completely loyal to the family and the puppets began building the red hoard the rothschilds planned to use to crush western resistance to their hegemony.
unfortunately for the communist rothschilds, a new leader arose in europe who opposed the communists and who was a military and political genius. a greater man has seldom been seen, and he defended europe from the red hoards about to descend upon the continent. he nearly wiped them out, except he underestimated commie influence in america. the sneaky rothschilds tricked the americans into fighting the great white hope and saving their communist colonies in the east.
with germany destroyed, the rothschilds used their influence to turn america communist and then used america to rebuild europe upon communist principles. things went well for them, with most of the world then under the communist yoke. but during the 80′s plastic surgery created a new great white hope.

It wasn’t a joke to the millions of Soviets murdered by the communists and it wasn’t a joke to many continental Europeans that feared that chaos and violence coming to their countries. And the speeches by the National Socialists in the 1930′s and 40′s about what Jews were doing then, are remarkably similar to a lot of what is being said on this website and others seventy years later.
The uninformed would mock and shout “anti-semite” to what is being written on this website as you mock what Goebbels said seventy years ago, even though much of what he said is in line with what you might write here. After helping communism take control of much of Europe during WW II, Americans began to oppose communism. The Americans and British let the Soviet Union take control and install communist governments in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia and many of these countries had been under the German or Austrian sphere of influence until after WW I. The fact that continental Europe was in Germany’s backyard and not the USA’s or Britain’s would partially explain the countries different attitudes to the dangers.
While people on this website have finally discovered, seventy years after the war, that Jews have organized to take control of most western governments, the National Socialists realized it in the 1930′s already. Europe valued its Christian traditions and they didn’t want their cultures replaced with the Godless system that would be ruled by one people – Jews. That’s why some people call WW II the “Judeo-Bolshevik victory”.
I believe Goebbels was right when he and others said communism (at last that coming from the Soviet Union) was Jewish movement so they could take control of the world. They have taken control of the world and that is what we talk about on this website.

There is an identifiable reason why The New York Times, “the newspaper of record” and the most influential newspaper in the USA chose to cover up and ignore the atrocities in the Soviet Union, while reporting even the most insignificant violent incident that took place in Germany.
The New York Times has been owned by the same Jewish family since it was founded in the mid- nineteenth century and most of its editors and many columnists are Jewish too. Just as Arabs won’t get an objective article written about the middle east, Germans didn’t get objective articles written about Europe.
While their was discrimination and violence against some Jews and others in the 1930′s in Germany, in general there was very little violence, certainly when compared to the millions of people being murdered in the Soviet Union during that period. No such thing was happening in Germany in the 1930′s; before the war began.
But in order to maximize the propaganda and push the USA into a war against Germany, it was necessary to demonize the Germans and make the Soviet Union (where fellow Jews were playing such a big role) look as good as possible. And they did a very good job, because while many hated communism, many intellectuals also praised it.

Even if there was any truth to what William Dodd supposedly said, it had nothing to do with Germany. Germany had not the least interest in the USA. That would have been an American undertaking. But the lies and propaganda in those days said something quite different.

Sorry, I don’t see it that way at all. You, like every other American (I believe you are American) have been told that Hitler attacked the USA, but you haven’t been told that FDR attacked Germany before that.
It’s the same as with the reporting on Palestinians and Israel. We’re always told what the Palestinians did, but never what the Israelis did first.
In both cases, it is in effect, a lie.

You’ve got it all backwards. Lindbergh was anti-war, Woody Guthrie is Daniel Pipes in this song. This is the same kind of propaganda that has been directed at Iraq, Iran, Palestinians, and Arabs in general for the last forty years. That is correct. Germany declared war on the USA nine months after the USA signed Lend-lease in which the USA supplied war material to the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, Free France and others in their war against Germany. The USA also began attacking the German Navy while the Germans were fighting the British, long before Germany declared war on the USA.
Those were FDR’s methods.

I have no met a single person in either Argentina or Uruguay who admires Chavez. I figure I must be moving in the wrong circles…
The sad truth is that the gringo propaganda in major newspapers (El Pais, El Observador, La Nación) has traction–they see Chavez as someone who will confiscate the personal property of the middle class to distribute it to “the lazy good-for-nothing who don’t work and prefer to collect social assistance.”
Funny thing is you can buy a Che Guevara T-shirt everywhere in these countries–and many young people wear them–but you’d be hard pressed to find one with Chavez’ name or face on it. He needs some serious PR.

–The revolution was highjacked by international JP and turned into the “October Revolution”, which became “godless”–distinct from ‘secular’ insofar as it was aggressively and lethally anti-Christian and anti-Russian–dictatorship. Not “the dictatorship of the proletariat” as it boasted thereafter, but of Polish, Lithuanian, Russian, Ukrainean, Georgian and even German jews who had never rubbed elbows with any proletarian.
It claimed to be practicing “marxism” but it was what Atzmon called in a contemporary context “”jewish marxism.”
It was a maneuver much similar to the JP claims of today of supporting “democracy.”

You’re not boring me. I didn’t realize “Deux Siecles Ensemble” was he same book I was talking about. So, apparently it was translated into French, but not English.
I have a Russian friend that is as patriotic as anyone else towards their country (perhaps more so than many). She grew up under communism (was a communist I guess) and said she heard the communist revolution referred to as a “Jewish” revolution. I’m certain she heard that from other Russians and not here.

A couple of years ago I read a review of a book by S. they called Two Hundred Years Together in–I think– the NY Review Review of Books. It was clear that the (jewish) reviewer was trying to smear S. as being “influenced” by the anti-semitism so prevalent in Russia, so I got curious and wanted to read. I discovered with amazement that it had not been translated into English–amazement because it makes you wonder why then it was reviewed in the NYRB. I don;t recall NYRB reviewing books that were not available in English.
I had a hard time finding it on French sites because I was translating the title verbatim from English: “Two hundred years.” Finally I found Two Centuries Together in French and ordered it from France.
Reading it I realized it will be translated into English when hell freezes over. It is dangerous BECAUSE it is very clear from the book that S. is not “anti-semitic” in fact he bends over backwards to be fair and lists–in the same historian’s style document after document that showed who did what, controlled what and when.
The title expresses the sad question echoing throughout the book indirectly but loudly: “WHY, when we have spent 200 years together, when you prospered here and lived better than us, lorded it over us, why were you always filled with such hatred for us, and why do you continue to show it from afar, from Israel?”
This summer when traveled to Europe I discovered that it has been translated into Greek and Rumanian…. Funny, isn’t it?

They worked harder to bring Germany down. They worked together and they sacrificed hundreds of thousands of their own young men and in the case of the Soviet Union, millions of men. Capitalist and Communist countries formed maybe the biggest alliance ever of two opposing systems. So what brought them together?
The story we’re told is that NAZI Germany was going to take over the world, attack everyone and kill everybody they didn’t like, but the facts don’t support what conformist historians write. In order to make sense of these things, you have to understand how and why WW II started and David Irving and some others explain it according to the facts.
Why was Great Britain willing to destroy its own empire for Poland (and it’s true, Germany did want its German territory back from Poland and they were willing to fight for it).
In order to understand why England under Churchill and the Soviet Union formed an alliance against Germany you have to take into account Jewish Power. It was strong and represented in all these countries (Soviet Union, France, Great Britain and USA).
David Irving has the documents (not what someone has written afterwards), but the actual documents showing that Churchill was paid by the British Board of Jewish Deputies and other individual wealthy Jews to bail him out of financial difficulties and that made him their man. He destroyed Germany and his own empire (despite being very patriotic) for his “ego” as Irving puts it. I think saying he did it for the money makes it clearer.
I’ve posted Irving’s speeches here already several times (they’re on youtube) and I don’t want to do it again, because I’ve talked about what I’m writing here already and by now it’s probably boring. I also posted a copy of the actual letter Chaim Weizmann wrote to Churchill telling him he could bring the USA into the war if Churchill helped create a Jewish army.

Why was it so important to protect the jews and only the jews? I watched the “documentary”. It took me a while to warm up to it, but it’s very interesting. It contains a lot of footage from fictional movies to show the brutality in the USSR and most of it is new to me, but I’ve heard of some of the central figures involved before. According to what I’ve previously read, Jacob Schiff financed the Japanese military in their 1905 war against Russia. Schiff was Jewish and it’s said he hated the Czar and Russians for the way they supposedly treated Jews. I’ve seen the movie Est-Ouest mentioned at the end. That is a very sad movie.
I’m aware of the way the Baltic countries look at WW II. The Germans created Latvian and Estonian Waffen SS divisions and the Baltic peoples gladly joined. It’s inconvenient history for western Europeans that every year these countries hold a ceremony honoring their Waffen SS soldiers that are still alive as “fighting for freedom.” They certainly have a different view of the war. When I was in the beautiful city of Riga, Latvia in the early 2000′s I met an old Latvian woman who told me about life during the war and at one point, indicating a little discomfort because of what was done to the Jews, she nevertheless talks of the handsome and brave Waffen SS men. She would have been a young woman during the war, but I could tell she would have been quite attractive, as she was attractive in her advanced age.

out of curiousity, i thought i would look up solzenitsyn’s 200 years together. given it is considered “the bible” on soviet history by some the rightwingers here who use it to claim that communism in the ussr was a jewish thing and that october revolution was initiated and run by jews. almost the first thing i found claims this:

I have a cousin twice removed: right as rain and a good heart. From time to time he goes on binges though. Opinion binges. During those he can become abusive, convinced he sees Nazis and other right-wingers trying to insult what he calls u.s.s.r. and impose white supremacy in him. They are either gay or grrrls. You put your finger on it in an earlier post, or at least on part of it:
anyone who has a civilized dialog with pgg (who should be commended for his ability to generously ignore uncalled for abuse) comes in for an attack of insults from w-m, one more preposterous and rude than another.
Those who do not agree with all his opinions are promptly declared homosexuals (he goes into a typed pantomime of lisping), Nazis, skinheads, zionist agents “spamming the net under different nicks”–a complete khalidean performance.
Live nerves are any perceived criticism of anything Russian/Soviet, Marxist (his understanding of it), any less than satisfyingly insult against Catholicism, Germany and “white power” (although he declared that races do not exist).
It is not a slip or an occasional outburst; he goes on and on, unable to stop, ranting in a way that not only precludes dialog but makes any future prospect of it undesirable.
I, for one, have decided to ignore ALL of his posts from now on because even those contributions he makes that would merit comment and discussion eventually lead to the same cycle of bipolar storms.

we all come here with our different backgrounds. we can all learn from each other, and i hope that we do. there already exists a great deal of useful information and links in the archive. there is even a pleasant sprinkling of humour. perhaps the least useful contributions are insults and diatribes based on prejudice or sectarian attitudes, but up to a point even these are not entirely futile – most of us need to ‘let off steam’ from time to time.
the peaceful co-existence of a vibrant diversity of points of view is a strength not a weakness. i do not consider evil to be a valid point of view, however.
i spent some time ‘on the left’. i parted company with these excellent comrades for various reasons. not because I ceased to love humanity. and not because I ceased to value the critiques of various aspects of capitalism provided by some of the more articulate exponents of ‘marxist’ thought. it would be wrong to waste readers’ time with my own attempts to articulate my dissatisfactions, but a brief list off the top of my head might be instructive
i am not a materialist (whatever people think that might amount to)
my approach to life evolves out of love, not from hate
i value freedom of thought and expression, not ‘party lines’
i intensely dislike double standards and hypocrisy, and I abhor mendacity
as a personal observation, the left I saw was entirely concerned with politics – with demonstrations, strikes and selling rather shabby ‘newspapers’ – whereas the most useful contribution of Marxism is to do with economics, and the dialectical vision of history which that economic analysis gave rise to. When i askedcertain questions, for example ‘what, now – in the present conjucture is the proletariat?’ not only did nobody ever gave me a convincing answer. Indeed I was led to think that such questions were regarded as unhelpful by the shepherds of the Trotskyite flock. those Marxists who did deal with ‘theory’ wrote in a style hardly distinguishable from post-modernist gobbledygook.
i do not admire those who use others cynically, however noble might seem the cause for which their welfare or their lives was to be sacrificed.
i am not impressed by arguments which include jeering at opponents, though i am partial to a soupcon of parody and satire – and love the wonderful contributions in this vein from Ariadna and Barb in particular.
my sympathies are always with the oppressed. self-styled communist or socialist states did not appear markedly inferior to their capitalist opponents in their skilful mastery of the arts of suppression and subjugation.
i dislike self-appointed elites of whatever colour and provenance.
i favour organic development to schisms and revolutions. ‘revolutions’ in practice seem to breed internecine struggles between factions, and a great deal of bloodletting, followed by a period of stifling doctrinal servitude.
i believe that most of those who seek power over others, whatever the name of the cause that is used to justify this power-seeking, to be either corrupt or psychopathic, and sometimes both.
i strive to rid myself (gradually) of prejudice, and to keep an open mind about complex issues.
i feel i can be of most use by being more fully myself, and focussing on what I do best.
that will suffice.
you may feel I am wrong – that I am a dupe of ‘bourgeois lies’. however i am far from an apologist for islamophobic neo-liberalism
you are entitled to your opinion. But to me your opinion is one opinion among many. if you have any useful critique i will gladly listen to it.

Thousands of Venezuelans living in the southern United States made their way to New Orleans to vote in their country’s presidential election. Despite the long and costly journey, they were celebrating.
Busloads of people arrived at the Convention Center early Sunday morning. The line stretched a mile long, but the mood was festive. Venezuelan flags flew from cars passing the crowds.
Venezuelans living in the U-S are critical of President Hugo Chavez. Most are professionals who left after he took office in 1999. Dr. Richard Smith of Windermere, Florida, is anxious for change.
“We want Venezuela to be the leader in America of democracy. And we have a dictatorship right now.”
Many came from Miami. There had been a consulate there serving four states, but it was closed this year by Chavez after a diplomatic incident.
Antoinette Siem spent her birthday on a bus, coming from Gainesville, Florida.
“My husband had to vote in Venezuela because unfortunately he’s not registered in Miami. Miami consulate was closed when he went. And I am here. And we are pleased. It’s not easy but for the freedom of Venezuela it’s worth it.”
Nathalie Condjahn drove with three others from Miami in a rental car, stopping overnight and sharing expenses. She says the cost and inconvenience wouldn’t stop her voting.
“It hasn’t been a democracy. And people in Venezuela are living – it’s not a dream, it’s a nightmare..”
Voter turnout was high in Venezuela, where Chavez is seeking a fourth term.

The cunning selfishness of Chavez was seen in using the country’s oil wealth to build hospitals, schools and infrastructure, to reduce illiteracy and bring health care to the most remote parts of the country, ALL of this in a cynical ploy to have people vote for him again.

Back to Chavez. I, too, had read the curious, paradoxical fact that the most progressive, humanity-loving, socialism-leaning ethnic group in the world had left Venezuela in large, kosher groups since Chavez came to power.
I have to correct you here, and it is such a minor correction that it takes nothing away from my not-yet-subsded ecstatic admiration for your contribution to ethnic quantum physics. The only reason they left was so that they could — through tireless positive promotion — help improve his image abroad, which is being undermined constantly by the vile bloodsucking rightwing supremacist fascist skinheads neocon capitalist scumbag vermin filth who own the MSM.
How do I know? Same logic we use to show that the Patriot Act works, for example (i.e., we didn’t get another 9/11): if they were not working on it his image would be a lot worse!
Yes, Obama sent a message of congratulations but not to Chavez–he could not be seen on the brink of his own election as pandering to the communist tyrant–no, his message was to the “people of Venezuela” whom he congratulated for their “participation” in the electoral process insuch high numbers.

Contrasting Elections

U.S. workers and those who are unemployed are frequently told that the current presidential elections are among the most important in this country’s history. With continuing high unemployment and underemployment, declining wages, and looming massive cuts to social programs that help workers, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, we are at a grave point regarding the direction of this country. However, the policies of both presidential candidates and their parties have perpetuated the devastating effects of the Great Recession for workers. Wall Street, the banks, the corporations, and the wealthy have been the beneficiaries of these policies while the only thing workers have received has been more sacrifices.
In the U.S. presidential elections we are not seeing two competing visions over the direction of the country. Rather, we are witnessing a fight over tactics among big business politicians about how most effectively to sell the corporate agenda to the public and continue the one-sided class war against workers. These elections will not be any kind of game changer. They are a symptom of domination of the 1% over the political and economic system. Voting workers are being asked to pick their poison and have little enthusiasm for this choice.
What a sharp contrast the U.S. presidential elections are to those in Venezuela. Not only are Venezuelans being told that the results of the contest between President Chavez and his challenger, Henrique Capriles, were among the most important in this nation’s history, they felt it in their bones from their own experience.
For decades Venezuela had been dominated by a two party system to provide an illusion of choice, though each party’s policies were guided by the interests of a tiny few oligarchs who sucked up the wealth created by labor for themselves. Such a set-up cannot be maintained forever. After the Caracazo economic uprising in 1989 that was crushed with the death of thousands but followed by ongoing grass roots organizing, the game rules were thrown to the wind with the successful election of Chavez in 1998. Rather than work within the political machine, he ran against both parties and the oligarchs behind them, while leaning on Venezuela’s popular movements for support.
Since then, there has been an evolving struggle. On the one hand Venezuela’s 1% has attempted to overthrow, defeat, and sabotage Chavez. On the other hand the active mass resistance of the people has opposed returning to the way things were before 1998. A clear class line has emerged in this process, and Chavez has increasingly relied on supporting the efforts of workers and the poor to organize their own power over the direction of the country. Capriles, on the other hand, is a representative of the economic elite who want to regain their political control.
What have been the results of this process in contrast to what is happening in the U.S.?
In Venezuela, under Chavez, the privatization of its oil industry has been reversed and when some large private companies have been found to be unable or unwilling to fulfill social needs, the government has taken them over for the benefit of the people. In contrast, when Wall Street’s greed plunged the U.S. into an economic crisis, it was showered with trillions of taxpayer dollars in the form of bailouts and loans while workers were left to suffer the consequences.
According to studies by the U.N.’s Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Venezuela ranks first in a list of 12 Latin American countries that have reduced inequalities amongst their members.
In contrast, in the U.S., according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), between the years 2003 – 2005, $400 billion in pre-tax dollars was shifted from the bottom 95 percent to the top 5 percent, costing the bottom 95 percent households $3,660 each. While there was a drop in inequality for a short time after the stock market crash as a result of depleted stock portfolios, it has again accelerated. Since 2010, the top 1% has captured 93 percent of income gains.
When Chavez was first elected president, unemployment was 16.1 percent. Today it has been reduced to 6.5 percent (1) with one of the highest minimum wages in Latin America and food stipends. In contrast, in the U.S., 23 million remain unemployed or underemployed while the minimum wage has dramatically fallen behind the cost of living.
In Venezuela extreme poverty has shrunk from 21 percent in 1999, to 6.9 percent today. (2) For the United States, the movement is in just the opposite direction. According to the Census Bureau last year another 2.6 million Americans fell below the official poverty line on top of the 46.2 million already there. This resulted in the highest number of citizens in poverty since the Census Bureau started tracking the figure 52 years ago.
Millions of U.S. families have been kicked onto the streets because of the high rate of forecloses. There are no foreclosures in Venezuela. In fact, the money that used to go into the pockets of its wealthy elite is now being used to build hundreds of thousands of dignified homes for those in need.
By most indexes, including education and health care, the direction of Venezuela and the U.S. could not be more opposite in regards to what social forces are benefiting from the government’s policies, the few ultra-wealthy big business owners or the vast majority composed largely of workers.
The difference is not primarily a result of the character of Chavez or Obama. It is because in Venezuela the grassroots and worker organizations have taken the political lead with their ceaseless organizing and mass activity for their own interests. Chavez has supported this effort and opened up doors to its further development by redirecting the wealth of Venezuela’s economy away from the 1% towards empowering the nation’s vast majority.
This difference in priorities is also reflected in how campaigns are conducted in Venezuela and the U.S. For instance, last Friday, October 5, up to 3 million jubilant Chavez supporters filled the streets of Caracas in the build-up to the elections on Sunday. This turnout was achieved, in large part, by neighborhood, work place, union and other grass root group organizers talking person-to-person within their networks to get the maximum numbers to the event. It was said that the barrios in Caracas’s heavily populated hills were empty as participants flowed down to the mobilization. There have been several other massive outpourings across the country as election day approached. Notably, the rallies in support of Capriles had only a small fraction of the numbers who braved the tropical heat and rain showers to support President Chavez.
In the U.S., the turnout achieved in support of Chavez is unthinkable for either Obama or Romney. While a few thousand may show up to hear them speak, most people are passive and alienated by the campaign process, since they see their standard of living drop no matter which party is in power. The bulk of campaign efforts are fueled by big money buying up advertising time rather than by community links.
Whereas in the U.S. the presidential elections are business as usual, in Venezuela they mark an important milestone whether the country will continue its process towards “21st Century Socialism” or go in reverse. That is, what is at stake is whether Venezuela will complete a transition where both the political and economic systems are democratically controlled by workers for the sake of society as a whole, or whether the oligarchy will get the upper hand, dismantle — most likely with physical force — the grass roots organizations that have been built, turn the nationalized companies back to their original owners, and run the economy for the benefit of a few capitalists’ profits.
The truth is that Venezuela remains a capitalist country. The old reactionary oligarchy still has a grip on the reins of the economy, though the popular movements have managed to grab a significant hold with Chavez’s aid and numerous industry nationalizations. Either one class or the other will prevail in this struggle. As long as the outcome of the revolutionary process in Venezuela remains at a midway point, the fulfillment of its promise remains uncertain. Nevertheless, even with the worst outcome, its gains will not be easily reversed and its example will provide great lessons for the future.
For all of its imperfections, and there are many, the revolutionary process in Venezuela is a beacon for workers’ struggles internationally. When Europe and the U.S. are cutting away at social programs that benefit workers in the name of austerity, and good jobs remain hard to come by, if not impossible to get, the revolutionary process in Venezuela shows that there is an alternative to this road to ruin.
Each nation’s path to this alternative will be different as a result of its own particular circumstances. Nevertheless, this process will be marked by the fulfillment of definite requirements. The first is a united workers-led social movement independent of the capitalist politicians. Without this in Venezuela there would be no Chavez, no potential example of 21st Century Socialism, or any of the reforms under his presidency.
In the U.S., such an independent social movement has yet to develop that can activate and unite the majority, though there have been important attempts in this direction such as “Occupy Wall Street.” Consequently, the political machinery and its corporate policies remain those of our own oligarchy as the current presidential elections demonstrate. This is a passing episode, however, as our economic elite continue to prepare the foundation for inevitable revolt by the people.

since chavez isn’t jewish, and the movement and people he represents are not jewish, how are we to explain their leftist sympathies? we all know leftism is a jewish attack on christian white folk and their sacred “g-d” given capitalist economic systems. could it be chavez is a secret jew, or works for them? how can we explain the jewish plague of leftism taking over the good catholic people of venezuela? that must be the explanation of why these good christians turned to the devil.
