“Gilad and all that Jazz” is a portrait of one of the modern era’s best saxophonists; a man who has stolen hearts with the sounds of his sax and angered many with his political activities.

A gentle giant, warm, charismatic and somewhat shy, Gilad Atzmon is a complex character. Born into an Israeli, pro-Zionist family and serving briefly in the first Lebanon War of 1982, Gilad had a dramatic turnaround; he quit the army, picked up his sax and exiled himself to London, declaring himself an enemy to the Israeli state. Since then he has produced some of the modern era’s greatest Jazz albums, and collaborated with the likes of Ian Dury, Paul McCartney and Sinead O’ Connor.

In music he is a ‘feisty improviser’ as one critic put it, comparing him to the likes of Charlie Parker. In his political and philosophical ideas, he is blunt and outspoken. His ideas on Israel and “Jewishness” have upset many people. He has enemies from every camp; the left, Pro-Palestinians believe he is feeding the Zionist machine with his anti Semitic ideas and that he is damaging the cause of the Palestinians. The right, pro-Zionists are upset by his “anti-Semitic” rhetoric and his growing popularity within the Arab world.

Not for a while i guess, I believe that they will have a festival run, then TV and only then they may go for a dvd release.

I hope a potential “celebrity” status is not gonna get into your head. :)
I remember mr Finkelstein mentioned a few times that he had never seen the movie that was done about him (“an American radical”).
I believe him. One thing that I really like about him is his modesty and simplicity.
        It is actually quite touching.

Congratulations to a “gentle giant” with a warm, cute, somewhat shy smile. :)
I liked this short review although I was not crazy about this constant labeling you as an Anti-Semite. Why they could not use the words: controversial, politically not-correct, anti-MSM propaganda, thought/debate provoking , etc.??

That is one mean and ballsy sax solo with the Blockheads. Just to hear that solo is worth the price of the film.

Is the Queen and the rest of so-called Royal British Court invited to the Gala???
If yes, then I am not coming. :)

I like this part of the intro:
“also featuring Tony Greenstein, David Aaronovitch and Naomi Idrissi”…

Previously unknown to movie audiences outside the UK, the three actors divide movie critics’ opinions between: “credible but somewhat dull acting performance as pro-Palestinian anti-zionist zionists” to “over-the-top hamming.”

I think Naomi does a sterling performance as an Arabist, the Moroccan tea pot and assorted knick knacks

Tony’s filthy and verminous looking pink sofa is likely to become a legend in it’s own right.

“Tony’s filthy and verminous looking pink sofa”
    :-) :-) :-)
I laughed my head off but I am also glad I am not on your bad side. I’ll try to keep it that way.

“Tony’s filthy and verminous looking pink sofa”

I must say that I too was transfixed when I saw Tony on that Sofa. It is without doubt one of the memorable shots.
Although David Aaronovitch is quite funny as snorts ad snears and then Naomi Head Witch of them all. You couldn’t make this stuff up.

    It’s hypnotic.
