yes it all begins to look a bit tawdry. my family tree has, over the last year, given hospitality to:

3 crows (a family unit)
1 squirrel (grey)
1 moorhen
1 sparrow
1 robin
5 jays (a family unit)
several itinerant cole tits - intermittent visits
1 pheasant

despite a sign warning them to keep out, magpies repeatedly invade the sacred grove. they are tolerated up to a point.

for this reason, according to article 113 of the NFEIJ's constitution, i have scrupulously avoided all reference to matters ornithological in my posts, unless i can provide evidence even Caesar's wife wouldn't complain of, that my motives were as white as snow.others, we may now fear, have not been so careful.

however, these same parties have been under great pressure of work etc. and we should not rush to hasty judgement.

i have known cases where an editor, under the influence of work stress, has actually set up a bogus account, with one of those nonsense-syllable, robotic names, and used it to post incriminating evidence about himself and an adulterous affair he had been carrying on with his neighbour's wife. not that, i hasten to say, i even suspect any such crass impropriety in the present case. we are talking subtleties here. shades of grey.

perhaps the matter could be briefly turned over at our next chapter meeting which, if memory serves, is due to take place in 2017. i shall make a mental note, and inform people nearer the date.

So, Jonathon.... it is quite possible that this trouble maker who was walking around with a samurai sword disguised to look like a white stick and scaring the daylights out of honest policemen is related to you.... no wonder you rush to his defense, besmirching the sterling reputation of the British police in the process

AT: "Boy, are you Brits competitive or are you?"

The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office announced yesterday that it has dropped charges of assaulting a police officer -- and other less-serious offenses -- against a Crown Heights man who earlier this month got the crap kicked out of him by a police officer for no apparent reason.

The D.A.'s Office tells the Voice that it's yet to make a decision about whether to charge the officer.
