20th of April 2012, the day the Heartlands development in Cornwall finally opened. Located in Pool between Camborne and Redruth it has been some 15 years to manifest in its glorious fullness. The Heartlands development is a re-development of waste industrial mining land, which funded by the lottery has created a hugely impressive community space.
The weather was typically Cornish, wet one minute sunny the next. Although it was raining quite heavily, that was not going to put off Cornwall’s Casio-Rap Super stars “Hedluv and Passman“; who had been booked for the grand opening. Their set opened with their most popular tune – “Doing it Dreckly”. To those outside of Cornwall, Dreckly is Cornish slang for “directly” but it is always said with an air of sarcasm. Because things go very slowly in Cornwall.
Dreckly is like Manana but without the sense of urgency. ~ A Fisherman’s Friend
Here is a Youtube video of the Heartlands construction, at this stage it was just a computer simulation set to Hedluv & Passman’s music but now the dream had come true. We were all very emotional.
The set went well despite sporadic April showers, and Passman quickly stripped off to his underpants and his famed golden Jockstrap. Passman is not at all inhibited and always strips to his golden jockstrap at the climax of his performance. He then runs and dances about frantically, as if possessed by some Cornish Piskie. To people who have not seen “Hedluv and Passman” before such shameless displays must have seemed quite shocking. Indeed they were several people with mouths wide-open as they watched “Passman” frolicking with delight in the spring rain.
After 2-3 tracks with Passman running around in his underpants and the “Golden Jockstrap” an organiser approached the stage and politley asked him to put his shorts back on. It wasn’t said directly, but the inference was definitely there. Passman was scaring the school children who had been shipped here to see the grand opening.
Controversy aside it was hugely enjoyable and after 15 minutes even the rain stopped. Hedluv & Passman played their brand new song – “The Pastie Song” and finished it all off once more with their anthem – “Doing it Dreckly”.
Hedluv & Passman’s new album is called “We came here not for gold” and I heartily recommend it, totally original, funny and very British music. Hedluv & Passman are without doubt a classic example of Weird Nature.
The United States must resolve that ‘never again’ is not just an ‘empty slogan’, said U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday, in a statement marking Holocaust Remembrance Day. Yet, I am left bewildered, what does president Obama refers to? Is ‘never again’ a universal message pointing at genocides in general or did he refer to Jewish suffering only? With 1,455,590 dead Iraqis due to an Anglo American criminal war, it seems as if the USA is actually complicit in an actual genocide.
Obama’s comments followed Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s Holocaust Memorial Day address at Yad Vashem where he stated that Israel’s “enemies tried to bury the Jewish future but our future was born again in the land of our forefathers, here we built a base, and a new beginning of freedom, and hope and action.”
Netanyahu, as usual, was almost correct. The ‘Jewish future’ was indeed born again after the holocaust just to introduce total misery, racism, expansionism, oppression, death and carnage to the entire Middle East. The so-called ‘Jewish State’ has managed, in just a few decades, to locate itself as the primary threat to world peace. With the Jewish State and its lobbies pushing for a war against Iran, there is little room for doubt- Israel is driven by a suicidal inclination in the spirit of Biblical Samson. Yet, being a nuclear super power, Israel’s potential self-inflicted tragedy may as well put an end to the world, as we know it.
In Yad Vashem, the Israeli PM, once again explored the most banal pre-traumatic stress symptoms. He went on to say that today’s generation “faces calls to exterminate the Jewish State,” and that lessons of the past must not be forgotten. Netanyahu obviously focused on Iran, calling it an existential threat to Israel, and to world peace. He added, “It is the world’s responsibility to stop Iran securing nuclear weapons.”
PM Netanyahu is obviously wrong. It is actually obvious that nuclear Iran could only save Israel from itself. It would restrain the Jewish State and stop it from exploring its lethal inclinations.
If Obama is sincere, if ‘never again’ isn’t just an ‘empty slogan’ as he says, he better go out of his way to restrain Israel’s genocidal inclinations and its belligerent pro-war Lobbies around the world.
