@somoe you're right, the basic motivation is from math:

exp(-i π) + 1 = 0

i.e. etominusipi plus one equals zero.

this is one of the most profound equations in our, or any other, universe. my motive in choosing it as a name was simply to remind people, at a subconscious level, of this beautiful and mysterious identity which, if contemplated can contribute greatly to the harmonious development of the intellectual part of the soul. of course this was a typically aspergers project. i have actually no evidence that my using this name has done anything (except in a very few exceptional cases, like your own expressed curiosity, and correct guess) other than confuse people, and discourage them from interacting with me! however, as we aspergers folk say,

self-defeat is the ultimate victory.

the euphony you mention (Longfellowesque?) was a secondary motivation. in fact the equation is true without the minus sign in the exponent, but etoipi or etotheipi didn't quite 'hit the spot'.

The direct relation between culture and its purpose:

Culture- without opening a dictionary- means the culture of the soil; and what is the soil? The soil is the mind in its immense storehouse of seeds and potentialities.
So the purpose of culture- as Jesus mentioned - is the highest good :like a mustard seed that the cultivator has planted and watered and that has grown to become a big tree.
Culture is the art of manifesting and growing the most beneficial tree of mind , the best of which is the tree that Jesus spoke about . It is the art of bringing from the dormant causal condition of thought that kind of thought which bestows on man the highest good .Within the causal mind lie all dormant thoughts , there is nothing that isn't there. it carries the seeds of all manifestations : past, present and future, good and evil . Culture is the nurturing of a certain kind of thought propitious to a certain goal kept in mind .
So it is the goal that determines the kind of culture that we seek. We don't seek really culture as such , we seek to understand our own reality and our circumstance- external and internal- in the light of our direct and ultimate purpose

A SHORT ODE IN PRAISE OF THE MSM
(with particular thanks to the BBC

composed on the occasion of deLiberation's 1000th post
in celebration of the new fourth estate)

ye merchants of filth,
and pedlars of lies -

ye sordid, venal and pusillanimous vermin;
in whose veins flows not blood, but stinking pus,

ye servants of embezzlers and those who rape the public purse,
know ye not how vile your images have become in the vision of the wise?

make haste!
slurp greedily, while you yet may,
from your bejewelled trough of dainty excrements -

ere long ye shall crawl towards the place of desolation,
despised, castrated outcasts from the human race.

Some authors would prefer no feedback from the comments, they want the glory but not the boos. But that is life...

Many authors did not last at deliberation ultimately becuase they did not like being criticsed in the comments. Attempts to suppress freedom of speech in the comments failed. But also using Freedom of Speech principle to preach Hate is inherently wrong and fairly easy to spot and one to watch out for and avoid.

I think we can bridge the divide here on deLiberation between author and reader through our co-creativty, debate and deLiberation.
